Learning Guide for
Canada: A People's History
Better Classroom Guidebooks' Learning Guide for
Canada: A People’s History consists of
seventeen viewing guides for each of the episodes in the CBC video series Canada: A People’s History. Each
viewing guide leads students through an examination of one of the videos by
means of a series of questions that highlight the events described in the
episode.
I originally developed the viewing guides to present the Canada: A People’s
History videos to large groups where the guides’ questions acted as the
framework for the notes that the students made while watching and discussing the
videos’ content. Over time, the nature of my classes changed to include students
who were working on several different social studies courses and who were
working at different points within each course. Because the videos were so
powerful, I continued to use them with individuals or groups of two or three
students. The viewing guides proved very useful in focusing and guiding these
small groups as they independently watched the videos.
The Learning Guide for Canada: A People's History is distributed on
DVD in Microsoft Office format which will allow the purchaser
to easily modify the Guide's components to suit their own unique
circumstances.
A sample viewing guide can be downloaded by clicking on the links below.
I hope you will examine it; then, try it out with your students.
Enjoy!
